Menstrual Cup
Menstrual Cup?

I’m considering purchasing a menstrual cup but can’t decide between brands. I’ve read that the Diva Cup’s stem causes a lot of grief because the cup itself is so long and that users usually switch to the Lunette because it has a flat stem and is smaller.

I’m 5′0″ and wondering if I should go for a smaller cup because I’m short?

Any ideas?

Personally I tend to recommend Divacup as it’s a big brand, yes it’s long, larger than some cups and firmer silicone but remember you get 12 months to try it out, you could always get a refund and try another brand if it doesn’t work out for you. The stem is an issue for a lot of women with menstrual cups, most women just trim off the steam – word of warning, it’s best not to cut it all the way off as some women find the cup tilts to one side without the steam…I speak from personal experience, although some companies will give you a replacement or refund if this happens (MooncupUK did for me) it’s best to avoid the fuss. Sometimes the steam can also cause problems when you first insert the cup, but after some time the cup moves it’s way further up your vagina so the steam doesn’t irritate the vaginal opening.

If you look at this comparison photo – http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y190/Elettaria/allcups1fourth.jpg – you’ll see some cups have longer steams, it’s really more of a case of finding which one works for you as we are all different, for you the steam might not cause any problems. I can’t imagine the Lunette being much different from the Divacup for that problem, you might want to try looking at other brands – Keeper, MooncupUK, MooncupUS, Miacup, and Ladycup (FYI if you have a light flow or a smaller vagina the latter may be a better choice as it is smaller than other brands so you may find it more comfortable and less likely to jab you with the steam).

Oh, and if inserted correctly menstrual cups are very unlikely to leak. Only softcups are known to leak.
